Inside My Head number sixty seven

Comment-palooza! In this show, I read several comments I got on my recent blog post, my previous podcast, and one comment that was actually posted on theHyper Nonsense site. Expect much ranting about my job, some answering of questions, and an update about how my job hunt is going so far.

This is pretty much how I’ve been feeling lately:

Thank you to all of you out there who have been so encouraging about my horrible workplace, and my Quest to Find a Better Job. It’s nice to feel like someone is on my side, and understands my pain.

Why I Hate People

First blog post for the Inside My Head podcast! (Maybe last one too, who knows?)

I hate my job. This is not a secret. The absolute worst thing about my job is that now, I hate people. It took nearly five years of working in retail hell, but it has finally happened. I now expect the absolute worst from every person I encounter. I never wanted to be like this.

I have ranted in my podcast (maybe too often) about the idiocracy of the corporate culture I am stuck working under. I have complained about managers, and policies, and the lack of any change for the better. You have heard all that before. What I haven’t done much of, is discuss how awful it really is to have to put up with angry, rude, nasty customers all day long, every day, knowing that there will be no one to defend me from them. I don’t think it’s something I can explain properly in a blog, or in a podcast.

So, instead, I have found some videos on YouTube that make things crystal clear. This, people, is what most of my days are filled with:

Unattended tweens hanging out in the Kid’s Section:

Not only are they taking out nearly every stuffed animal on the display, they are loud to the point of being obnoxious. Notice how when the wage slave asks them to be more quiet, one girl waves her hand, as if to say “whatever!”. Do you think they picked up all those stuffed animals after they were done playing? I doubt it. Why don’t these tweens have any adults with them?

Unattended teens hanging out in the cafe:

Here we have an example of what it is like to deal with unattended teenagers in my store. They are blasting music, and become even more obnoxious when the wage slave asks them to stop. They return to blasting music the instant the wage slave walks away. They haven’t actually purchased anything from either the store or the cafe, but still feel that it is perfectly acceptable go ahead and take up a table that is supposed to be available for use by customers who did buy a coffee or a sandwich from the cafe. Oh, and they also think they have the right to just commandeer the water pitcher that is supposed to sit on the coffee bar so everyone in the store can use it. Taking over the cafe with their loud music wasn’t enough for them, it seems. Wage slaves who are stuck working there at this time are no doubt hearing complaints about these teens from irate screaming customers.

Child throwing a screaming fit in the store:

This happens every day! Most of the time, the parents simply ignore the child, and keep shopping. Makes me want to scream at the parents, and force them to either attend to their child, or put down the damned magazine and take the kid out of the store!

These are not employees:

Yes, many stores have costumed characters who appear in the store and attend the children’s story time events. These, however, and not those characters. These people most likely don’t even work at this store, they are just here to waste time. At my store, I have had the Pink Panther show up one day to ride the elevator. His friends were following him with a camera. None of them have the slightest interest in buying anything at all, they just want to use the store as a playground.

As we near Christmas, (August), we get loads of these little items:

Imagine having to hear people bang on those all day long, every day!

Why our bathrooms are such a mess:

Who do you think has to clean that up? The wage slaves! The janitors only arrive in the morning, before the store opens. This means that all the destruction that is done in the bathrooms is cleaned by wage slaves. And no, this isn’t anywhere near the worst mess I have seen.

I get calls like this every day:

True, these boys are pulling a prank. But, it is a very good example of the kinds of phone calls I get every day from people who are not being funny.

I am losing my mind.

Delirious

Inside My Head Podcast number 65.

Slightly delirious as I recorded this one. Wheezing for days and days due to a bad allergy season tends to do that to me. Being overworked at my job isn’t helping either. Those of you that especially enjoy me ranting about work, and making little sense, will probably like today’s episode of Inside My Head.

Today’s Haiku of Frustration is called : “Darwin Awards”.

Get 98 more haiku at a reasonable price. Haiku of Frustration: Wage Slave

Cameo appearance in today’s show by Vanya, the Hyper Nonsense intern bunny.

Want another peek inside my head? I am contributing to Envisage 365. It’s a blog where about 50 women are posting one photo each day for an entire year. The blog started September 1, 2008. Each photo is supposed to have something to do with how your day is going, or how you feel that day, or what you did. In other words, it’s a little bit of an online journal, sort of like the Inside My Head podcast. This blog was called “Pictures and Pie” until just recently, but the name has changed.

To find my contributions for Envisage 356, look for “Jen”. Somehow, I am the only Jen on the site! Don’t know how that happened. :) Enjoy the haiku photo captions, that I am writing exclusively for the Envisage site. You won’t find them anywhere else!

Music in today’s show by:

A Band Called Quinn , with a song called “All the Dead End Jobs”. Very pretty song from a band that was kind enough to send me a sympathy email in response to my playing their song on my previous show, where I talked about dead and dying family members. You, A Band Called Quinn, rock!

Paisley Riot, with a song called “Books That You Once Read”.
Here is a fun little video for that song:

Echo Screen , with a song called “The Letter Bomb”.
Here is a cool video for that song:

…and… if this all makes no sense, it’s cause I’m sick as hell, and hopefully seeing a doctor sometime before I record my next show.
Enjoy the delirium!
