To answer your question about marriage and civil union: Yes, you can have both. Not at the same time obviously, but you have a choice. I’ve never been to a church in my life except to look at the architecture, so the word marriage means nothing to me. Most of the couples we know aren’t married, those who are mainly did it because they liked the idea of a traditional ceremony.
